October Is Mouse Season in Mid-Michigan.
Updated: 6 hours ago
The nights are dropping into the 40s, and the mice feel it. Right now all across Lansing and Mid-Michigan, mice are leaving the fields and hunting for a warm wall to spend the winter in. Your house is warm. That is the whole story.
Here is the part that surprises people. A mouse fits through a hole the size of a dime. Your house has more of those than you think: gaps around utility lines, dryer vents, crawl space doors, garage door seals, rooflines. I walk the full exterior of a home and I find a dozen entry points on most houses, and the homeowner never knew any of them were there.
Once mice are in your walls, the problems stack up fast. They chew wiring, which is a fire risk. They contaminate insulation. And they multiply. One pair of mice in October turns into a real problem by January. Traps catch the mouse that is already inside, but they do nothing about the next ten coming in behind it.
That is why October is exclusion season. Exclusion means finding every entry point and sealing it with materials mice cannot chew through, like steel wool, copper mesh, and metal flashing. Done right in the fall, you spend the winter mouse free instead of setting traps in the basement.
If you are hearing scratching in the walls at night or finding droppings in the pantry, do not wait for it to get worse. Call me at 1-844-772-6699. I will come walk your home myself, show you exactly where they are getting in, and seal it up. Free inspections all fall.
