Ant Control

Say goodbye to ant trails. We locate the nest and eliminate the colony at its source for long-lasting relief.

Finding a persistent line of ants marching across your kitchen counter or along baseboards is a common frustration for Mid Michigan homeowners. Whether dealing with tiny "sugar ants" (odorous house ants) that emit an unpleasant scent when crushed, or destructive carpenter ants excavating smooth nesting galleries inside your home's wooden structural framework, superficial sprays won't solve the problem.

Wiping away foraging ants only prompts the queen to produce more workers. At Powers Pest Control LLC, our ant control strategy is built on colony destruction. We trace ant activity back to the parent and satellite nests. Using non-repellent transfer chemistry, worker ants unwittingly carry our treatments deep inside the colony to the queen, dismantling the nest from the inside out.

How Our 3-Step Ant Elimination Works
  1. Trail Tracing & Species Identification: We determine whether you are dealing with moisture-seeking sugar ants, exterior pavement ants, or wood-boring carpenter ants to pick the correct treatment approach.

  2. Transfer Baiting Technology: We place specialized, slow-acting liquid and gel baits in active foraging paths. Workers carry the active ingredient back to the nest, feeding the queen and halting egg production.

  3. Exterior Foundation Defense: We apply an exterior liquid perimeter barrier around your foundation, window ledges, and entry thresholds to prevent scout ants from discovering new entry pathways into your living spaces.

The Powers Promise

"If pests come back between visits, we come back, free."We solve ant problems by taking out the entire colony. If ant trails reappear between regular visits, our technicians come back and retreat at no additional cost.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why did spraying store-bought ant spray make my ant problem worse?

A: Many retail sprays contain fast-acting repellents. When foraging ants detect the spray, the colony enters a defensive state called "budding"—the colony splits into multiple sub-colonies with multiple queens, turning one trail into several trails across different rooms.

Q: How can I tell if I have carpenter ants or ordinary house ants?

A: Carpenter ants are much larger (typically 1/4 to 1/2 inch), black or reddish-black, and often leave behind fine piles of wood shavings (frass) near baseboards or window sills. Unlike termites, they do not eat wood, but hollow it out for nesting, which still compromises structural framing over time.

Q: How long does it take to eliminate the entire colony?

A: Because our treatments rely on worker ants transferring the product back to the queen and nestlings, it generally takes between 3 to 10 days to achieve full colony collapse. This methodical timeline ensures the root source is eradicated rather than just dispersing the surface workers.
